How to Be More Productive in One Easy Step
As a mom, I know I am not the only one who has trouble feeling like I can get anything done. I work from home so I have to find ways to be productive in not only being a full time mom to my girl, but also to get things done for work.
I’ve spent a lot of time in the car lately listening to Dave Ramsey podcasts on budgeting. It got me to thinking about allocating my resources to things that matter. As a busy mom, one of my most precious resources is my time. Yet, I don’t allocate my time very well.
I decided that one way I could start being more productive is by literally budgeting my time throughout the day. I’ve always been a to-do list kind of girl, but this is more in depth and detailed.
I make my full to-do list for the next day every night before I go to bed now. Almost every night anyway. I list out anything and everything I need to accomplish for the day. Then the time budgeting begins. I get a clean sheet of paper, and I start making a time schedule for the day. Sometimes I break my tasks down by hours, sometimes by minutes. I just ensure I have everything on my list for the day scheduled at some time during the day.
To be be transparent, I will give you my time budget from one day last week:
6:30 – 7:00 – Spend time studying Bible
7:00 – 7:10 – Change and feed Reagan
7:10 – 8:00 – Breakfast, Schedule two Instagram posts, Fold clothes
8:00 – 8:10 – Check social media comments for real estate clients
8:10 – 9:00 – Schedule Blog social media posts for the day/week
9:00 – 10:00 –Make calls for work
10:00 – 10:15 – Change and feed Reagan
10:15 – 10:45 – Work on social media for work
10:45 – 11:30 – Write and schedule one blog post
11:30 – 1:00 – Cook lunch, rest
1:00 – 1:15 – Change and feed Reagan
1:15 – 2:15 – Make calls for work
2:15 – 3:00 – Unplugged time with Reagan
3:00 – 4:00 – Make calls for work
4:00 – 4:15 – Change and feed Reagan
4:15 – 5:00 – Work on blog posts and images
5:00 – 5:30 – Check social media comments, Follow new people on Instagram and Pinterest
Since I have started time budgeting, I notice I am much more productive. I do not get as distracted with other things either. I know that I have scheduled time to do all the things I need to do throughout the day. That way I am not spending my time jumping from one task to another, never finishing anything. Because I schedule everything, I get almost everything completed.
As expected, things ALWAYS that come up that mess up my schedule. I am not afraid to re-budget throughout the day as things come up and get out of whack. Overall though, I am much MORE productive and much LESS overwhelmed when I budget my time.
So, y’all. Now tell me, what do you think of my time budgeting practice? Do you think you would be more productive time budgeting? What are some other ways you know of to be more productive.
